To get the best out of it, one has to experiment with the settings and since the models are based on physics of real drumming, actual knowledge of drumming can also help setting it up just the way you want it. I can lock my chosen or programmed part to stay exactly the way it is or let AI change it in varying degrees even beyond anything I would've imagined when I started with it. For me the beauty of this system is that I can define how much AI will change and add to this. I find it really easy to open the bar editor and program any kind of basic rhythm, easier than in regular MIDI editor since it's already drum specific from get go. If just entering the basic midi pattern directly in a midi track, it would all be very mechanical. Then adding a drummer model, you will get variations, snare ghosting, accents, fills etc. I use that module where you can tell Jamstix how the basic pattern should be. Once only for verses, then maybe once for chorus if different. What's the point in using Jamstix, if you enter kick and snare yourself? Well, I do that in Jamstix. Oh and I forgot to mention I got so tied up in all this drummery I would up buying a Nanopad AND a Roland TD8 e-kit and learning how to play a bit.īut my drum parts are sounding better and better. So I`ll be waiting till Americana goes on sale I guess! They all have their strengths and are ALL good.Īlong the way I also tried Addictive Drums and Jamstix, neither of which did it for me, but of course it is worth trying demos to find what YOU are comfortable with.Īnd on the Toontrack front, I have bought Nashville and Latin Percussion to go with the Pop Rock kit supplied with EZD and so far have found the only thing I am missing is some rootsy rods and brushes sounds. Then I bought Battery 3, followed by Steven Slate Drums, and the basic Ocean Way sample set. Started out with session drummer in Sonar and then went through bfd (free version with my Alesis trigger I/O) EZ Drummer and Superior Drummer, both of which get used more than anything else. I either own or have auditioned just about every means of getting drums into reaper out there and I have to say they are all good.
